Familiar Returnees and a Few New Faces

Getting the first win of the season in the third game has the team off to the best start it has had in a long time.  With the loss of just 5 players, the 2004-2005 squad returns nine sophomores and adds five freshmen giving the team depth at most all positions.

The returning sophomores for the Lady Indians are:  Jessica Blair, Jennifer Giles, Jordann Hoyt, Katie Brawner, Sabrina Davis, Maegan Petersen, Stephanie Hansen, Amanda Barkley, and Felicia Wilkins.

The freshmen class includes:  Breanna Anderson, Jessica Gautier, Megan Brennan, Lacey Stevens, and Lindsey Dame.

“This year our team has a lot of athletic potential and a strong group of sophomores to provide leadership and experience,” states Jordann Hoyt.

Behind the experienced pitching of Maegan Petersen and Jennifer Giles, a fresh look comes from freshman pitcher Jessica Gautier.  “Each pitcher has different pitches that they bring to the table which will help keep batters off balance when we get deep into the season,” says MCC coach Scott Wacker.

A new energy is brought about when asked about the season; all the players seem excited and ready for competition.  “I’m excited to get on the field and play together,” adds Katie Brawner.

“I’m pleased with the way the fall season is going.  We have filled the gaps that needed to be filled.  We’re aggressive, we’re athletic, and we are working on meshing together,” says Coach Scott Wacker, “I am looking forward to the spring season.  It should be a lot of fun.”

“We are starting to come together as a team—we work hard and are adapting to some new positions for some players,” Jessica Blair states.

With the morale looking up, it will hopefully lead to the achievement of one of the team’s goals:  to have the first winning season in MCC college softball history.
